Emman Thomson 2026
BSc(hons) MSc MBBCh PhD FRCS(Plast)
After successfully completing her academic plastic surgical training in the UK, Dr Thomson joins us following an extended period of advanced microsurgical training within the Nordics. She was the inaugural microsurgical fellow at the Karolinska University Hospital, during which time she participated in their first bilateral hand transplantation, ahead of a fellowship with the microsurgical team at HUS in Helsinki, Finland. Having had the opportunity to first visit our unit in 2023, her interests in complex head and neck reconstruction, skull base and facial palsy have been key drivers in her choosing to complete her final Nordic fellowship at the Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, Akademiska sjukhuset in Uppsala. She has enjoyed the opportunity to be fully immersed in both the clinical and educational activities within the department and would strongly encourage those considering an international fellowship in microsurgery to consider applying to Uppsala. Following her time in Sweden she will undertake a final microsurgery fellowship in Winnipeg, Canada with Dr Ed Buchel prior to taking up her position as an attending surgeon in the US.
