We are a large team consisting of paediatricians, paediatric specialist nurses, nurses, assistant nurses and childcare nurses. We want you to feel as well as possible during your stay with us, which is why we work closely with the hospital school and therapeutic play services. We also collaborate with counsellors, psychologists, physiotherapists and dietitians to support you throughout your care and treatment.

About the ward

We are part of Uppsala University Children’s Hospital and one of Sweden’s six paediatric oncology centres. Here, we assess and treat blood disorders and tumour diseases. We care for children and adolescents aged 0–18 years living in the Central Sweden healthcare region, providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. We also have a day-care unit for shorter treatments, urgent visits and scheduled follow-up appointments.

You may be referred to us if you are a child or adolescent with, or suspected of having, a blood disorder or tumour disease and need specialised care and support. We work closely with Skandion Clinic, a national centre for radiation therapy. This means that you may receive care here even if you live outside the region, including in other parts of Sweden, the Nordic countries or abroad.

Care and treatment

The type of treatment you receive depends on your diagnosis. Examples of common treatments provided at our ward include:

• chemotherapy
• high-dose therapy (with stem cell rescue)
• antibody therapy
• stem cell transplantation.

We also prepare patients for and provide care after:

• surgery
• radiation therapy.

We also care for patients living in Uppsala County who have acute complications such as infections, pain or other problems related to their disease or treatment. If you live outside Uppsala County, you should in the first instance contact your local hospital.

We work closely with hospitals throughout the Central Sweden healthcare region. As a result, you may sometimes need to visit another hospital to receive the care you need.
