Clinical Pathology and Cytology

Laboratory.

Department in surgical pathology and cytology is a member of Laboratory medicine at Uppsala University Hospital. The primary objective of the department is to carry out pathoanatomic diagnostics on surgical and cytological specimens as well as on clinical autopsies. Furthermore the department facilitates mortuary activity. The service is primarily carried out for Uppsala University Hospital but also for hospitals in the Uppsala-Örebro health region. Department carries out routine histologic and cytologic technical laboratory work, immunohistochemical stains, molecular biologic analyses, flow cytometry and electronmicroscopic analyses. The department facilitates 19 experienced pathologist (3 professors) and seven trainees. Specialities that are covered include hemato-, neuro-, dermato-, endocrin-, uro-, gynecological- and gastrointestinal- pathologies.
