Clinical Microbiology

Approximately 200,000 analytical tests are performed in the clinical microbiology department every year. The bacteriologic diagnoses are based mostly on cultures, using agar or broths with various nutrients. Serologic and molecular biology diagnostics and toxin determinations are also performed. Virologic diagnostics involves serologic tests for HIV and hepatitis, general serology, blood donor testing and molecular biology methods.
