Infectious Diseases

Female doctor.

This department has a regional and county-wide responsibility for specialist outpatient and inpatient care of patients with infectious diseases. The department also has an important role in the highly specialized areas of intensive care and transplantion. Most patients are put in the acute ward around the clock or are taken over from another department. A fundamental part of the inpatient routine involves the care and isolation of patients with droplet- and air-borne infections such as influenza and chickenpox, the isolation of patients with gastrointestinal infections, and the epidemiologic surveillance and isolation of patients with antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections.
