Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases

Caregivers talking in corridor.

This department looks after the diagnosis and treatment of children and adults with diseases of the ear, nose and throat, offering both basic and highly specialized care. The department works in broad cooperation with other disciplines at the hospital. Examples of multidisciplinary collaboration include the treatment of acoustic tumors, insertion of brainstem implants, and treatment of tumors of the entire ear, nose and throat area. Advanced research activities are conducted primarily on the inner ear and tumors.

The otosurgery section of the department comprises a center for advanced, reconstructive middle-ear surgery and, with the neurosurgery department, a center for skull base surgery. All temporal bone surgery is undertaken including, for example, cholesteatoma, radical perforation reconstruction, otosclerosis, cochlear implants, ear malformation/atresia, and tumor surgery.
