About the department

The Accident and Emergency Department for Children and Adolescents provides care for patients with acute illnesses or injuries that cannot wait. Specialists in paediatrics, surgery, infectious diseases and orthopaedics are available around the clock.

When to Visit the Emergency Department

You should visit the Emergency Department if you have a life-threatening condition, a severe acute illness or have been involved in an accident that cannot wait until the next day. For minor infections or less urgent conditions, we recommend contacting a child health centre (BVC), or a paediatric outpatient clinic.

Which children do we treat?

• Children and adolescents with medical conditions: 0-18 years.
• Children with surgical or orthopaedic conditions: 0-14 years.

Children aged 15 years and older with surgical or orthopaedic conditions are treated at the Accident and Emergency Department at Entrance 61, Uppsala University Hospital.

If Your Condition Is Not Urgent

Region Uppsala's health centres are open 8–17.
