When your referral has been received by Akademiska sjukhuset, a doctor will make a medical assessment. If you need specialist care, we will schedule an appointment for you and send you an appointment notice. If we are unable to schedule an appointment straight away, you will instead receive a confirmation that we have received your referral.

According to the national healthcare guarantee, you should be offered an appointment within 90 days if the specialist clinic determines that you need specialist care. This also applies if you refer yourself without a referral from a doctor.

If you need to undergo an examination, such as an X-ray, before your appointment, the waiting time may be longer than 90 days.
