Our Purpose

NCK is a knowledge and resource centre at Uppsala University. The centre is commissioned by the Swedish government to collect, develop and spread knowledge about men's violence against women, violence and oppression in the name of honour and violence in same-sex relationships.

The clinical department at Uppsala University Hospital operates an out-patient clinic and the national helpline Kvinnofridslinjen 116 016.

Out-patient Clinic – Kvinnofridsmottagningen

Kvinnofridsmottagningen is an out-patient clinic providing care and counselling for women subjected to threats, violence or sexual assaults. You can get help and support from women nurses and doctors. Appointments can be made for weekdays. Emergencies are handled immediately.

Kvinnofridslinjen – National Helpline – 116 016

Kvinnofridslinjen is a national helpline for women who have been subjected to threats and violence. Relatives and friends are also welcome to call us. The line is open around the clock and your call is free of charge. Your call will not appear on the telephone bill. Kvinnofridslinjen can only be reached from within Sweden.

About Our Work

The Swedish National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence against Women (NCK) at Uppsala University has in Government directives been commissioned to

  • Offer service to patients with availability day and night.
  • Offer support to women subjected to violence.
  • Spread knowledge about and develop methods for care and treatment of women who have been subjected to battering and/or rape.
  • Spread knowledge and information about men's violence against women.
  • Educate medical staff and other categories of staff who are liable to meet women subjected to violence.
  • Follow, compile and spread research findings within the field of men's violence against women.
  • Carry on research within the faculty of medicine andfunction as a consulting resource for other organisations and authorities in the country.
