About our department
When you arrive at the Accident and Emergency Department, you will first be assessed at reception. You will be asked how you are feeling and why you are seeking care.
Depending on your symptoms, you may be referred to another level of care, such as Uppsala Närakut Aleris or your primary care centre. In some cases, you may be directed to another emergency department within the hospital.
After registration, you will be assessed by a triage team. The team's role is to determine the severity of your condition and prioritise patients accordingly. Those with the most urgent medical needs receive care first.
Waiting times at the Accident and Emergency Department can vary. It is based on how serious your condition is assessed to be, which medical specialty you require, how many patients we have, and which examinations and treatments are needed.

As a first step, call 1177 for advice on what to do and where to go. By calling 1177, you can speak with a registered nurse for medical advice. You only pay for the cost of the call. The service is available nationwide, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
