Emergency Care
We provide care for acute illnesses and injuries. Here, you will receive assessment, treatment and, if necessary, continued care at the hospital. We treat medical, surgical and orthopaedic conditions and are open around the clock. We work closely with primary care services and municipal healthcare providers if you do not need to remain in hospital. If your condition requires admission, we collaborate with other specialties and healthcare services to provide the care you need.

Where should I go if I become acutely ill?
In the first instance, contact the healthcare advice service by calling 1177. Experienced registered nurses will advise you on where to seek care.
Waiting times at emergency departments can be long because patients with the most serious conditions are treated first. You may be able to save time by contacting your health centre, GP, or by obtaining an emergency appointment at Uppsala Närakut Aleris through the healthcare advice service. Please avoid bringing large amounts of cash, bank cards or valuables when seeking emergency care.
Emergency Departments
If you need urgent medical attention, you should visit an emergency department. You can find information about our different emergency departments on the swedish version of the website.
Seek care when you need it
If you have an acute illness or injury, you can go directly to an emergency department without a referral. If your condition is life-threatening, always call 112. For less urgent concerns, contact 1177 for advice before attending. At the emergency department, patients with the most serious conditions are prioritised and treated first.
After your visit and next steps
Once your acute condition has been treated, you may sometimes be able to return home straight away. In other cases, additional examinations or continued care in hospital may be required. When appropriate, we coordinate your ongoing care with primary care services or another specialist clinic.
For significant others of a patient
As a relative or loved one, you are an important part of the patient's care journey. During the visit, it is usually possible to accompany the patient as support, but please check with staff in advance if there are any restrictions. Guardians of children receiving hospital care have specific rights and responsibilities.
