Where should I turn if I fall ill?
If you fall ill, contact or call 1177. Nurses will advise you on where to seek care.
You can also make an appointment at Uppsala Local Emergency Ward (1177.se) or go directly to your health centre.
You can come to Uppsala University Hospital through a referral from your health centre, or by requesting treatment yourself.
What do I do if I fall seriously ill?
In case of serious illness or injury, call 112 immediately.
Accident and Emergency Departments
Keep in mind that there may be long waiting times at Accident and Emergency Departments. Patients with serious conditions are helped first. To save time you can:

What should I not take with me for my visit?
Avoid bringing large amounts of money, jewellery or other valuables. The hospital cannot be responsible for them. There are only limited possibilities to lock up valuables on the wards.

Should I fast before my visit?
Fasting before a medical appointment depends on the type of examination you are having. Your appointment letter will contain information on how to prepare.
What does a visit to the Uppsala University Hospital cost?
A visit to the emergency room at Uppsala University Hospital costs SEK 500. Children and young people under the age of 20, people over 85 and military personnel in training pay nothing. They receive free care within Region Uppsala.

What are the visiting hours?
You are welcome at the hospital every day. Visiting hours may vary between wards. Ask the staff in the ward what the rules are.

Flowers and mobile phones
Many people are allergic to flowers. Therefore, do not bring flowers to the hospital.

What are the rules regarding visits and behaviour?
You can visit the hospital every day between 8am and 9pm. Wards may have different visiting hours. Ask the ward staff to get the right information.
The healthcare provider decides whether a visit is possible and how it should be conducted. There may be special rules for visits to patients in statutory care. Contact the ward and they will help you with what applies.
Mobile phones
Please be considerate when using a mobile phone. In some places, mobile phones can interfere with hospital equipment.
Fragrances
Some people are sensitive to strong odours, such as from perfume and flowers. Avoid introducing these.
Photo and film
You may only take photographs or film if you have obtained authorisation (consent) from the Head of Services, Head of Department or equivalent.
Smoking
Uppsala University Hospital is smoke-free. Smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor smoking areas.
Alcohol
As a rule, alcohol is not allowed on hospital premises. It is never allowed in entrances or waiting rooms.
Animals
Dogs and other pets are not allowed on hospital premises. Exceptions are guide dogs and service dogs.

It is not allowed to put up posters, distribute information, sell things, collect money or beg in the hospital or at the entrances.
Organisation
The hospital is not a public place. People who are disruptive or behave inappropriately may be turned away.
Can I wear perfume in the hospital?
Many people are hypersensitive to perfume or strong odours. Therefore, perfumed products are not used in the hospital. Staff should not wear perfume at work. As a patient or carer, you should also avoid wearing perfume.
What are the rules for photography and filming?
Uppsala University Hospital has strict rules for photography and filming. You cannot photograph or film patients without their written consent.
The hospital is not considered a public place. Photography and filming may only be carried out with the consent of the Head of Services, Head of Department or equivalent.
Even if you have been given consent, photography or filming must never be done in a way that breaches patient confidentiality or violates anyone's privacy.
