Referral to National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) for Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS)
Once the referral has been accepted, all patient cases will be presented at a multidisciplinary radiology conference at the NHV unit, where decisions regarding further management will be made and care planning will begin. For assessment and any subsequent care planning, a financial guarantee must be attached to the referral at the time it is submitted.
In order for the NHV unit to make a proper assessment, certain investigations and information must be available at the time of referral for elective TIPS in order for the referral to be accepted for review. Please see the referral template for the checklist.
