National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) is care that is complex or unusual and can only be provided in a few locations in the country. Pooling expertise into a maximum of five regions creates better conditions for long-term development, so that healthcare teams with broad and deep expertise can share experiences and provide patients with the very best care - wherever they live in the country.
National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) is based on close cooperation between the hospitals licenced to provide the care and those referring the patients. This collaboration is crucial to ensure that all patients, regardless of where they live in the country, receive equitable and high-quality care.
Socialstyrelsen decides which areas are covered by National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) and how many providers may provide it. After that, the NHV Board decides which activities will be allocated.
