Akademiska sjukhuset, in cooperation with Region Stockholm, is entrusted with the provision of National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) for certain care of gender dysphoria. Socialstyrelsen states that the aim of National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) is to develop and improve the knowledge, quality and patient safety in health care while using resources efficiently.

According to Socialstyrelsen's decision, certain care for gender dysphoria will be provided as National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) from 1 January 2024. The changes resulting from the decision will be implemented gradually during 2024.

Gender dysphoria care will continue to be available to patients. Information on any changes to the care pathway will be communicated when decisions are made. The information will be published here on the website, in previously established cooperation forums and to the individuals concerned if necessary.

The purpose of National Highly Specialised Care (NHV), and what Region Uppsala, in collaboration with Region Stockholm, strives for, is to increase accessibility, reduce waiting times and promote equal care.

The Gender Identity Clinic is responsible for coordinating gender dysphoria care at Uppsala University Hospital. Region Stockholm holds the licence and, in accordance with Socialstyrelsen's decision, collaborates with Akademiska sjukhuset as a partner.
