Referral to National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) for difficult-to-treat eating disorders

To receive care within NHV, a referral from the patient's regular specialist healthcare provider is required. The patient must be assessed as needing NHV and meet the inclusion criteria below. The referral template is developed nationally and it should be completed together with a payment commitment in the form of a specialised care referral that needs to be attached. Inclusion criteria

• Diagnosed severe eating disorder with or without primary or secondary somatic or psychiatric comorbidity.
• Several treatment attempts must have been carried out by the patient's regular care provider/home region, including at least one attempt in day care or inpatient care.
• The care must have been provided with adequate intensity without sufficient success.
• The home region has not been able to provide adequate care and the patient is sufficiently somatically stable for transportation to be considered possible.

Exclusions

• Patients at acute risk of suicide.
• Patients undergoing compulsory treatment for a generally dangerous disease.
• Patients for whom meaningful change is considered very unlikely to be achieved at the national unit.
