Referral to National Highly Specialised Care (NHV) for difficult to treat eating disorders

In order to be treated within NHV, a referral from a regular care provider at the specialist level is required and the patient must be assessed as in need of NHV and fulfilling the inclusion criteria below. The referral template is developed nationally and it should be completed together with a payment commitment in the form of a specialised care referral that needs to be attached. Inclusion criteria

• Diagnosed severe eating disorder with or without primary or secondary somatic or psychiatric comorbidity.
• Several treatment trials must have been carried out at the regular care provider/home region where at least one of the treatment trials must have been carried out in day care or inpatient care.
• The care must have been provided with adequate intensity without sufficient success.
• If the home region has not been able to provide adequate care and the patient is sufficiently somatically stable for transport to be considered possible.

Delimitations

• Patients at acute risk of suicide.
• Patients undergoing compulsory treatment for a generally dangerous disease.
• Patients where the potential for change is deemed very difficult to achieve at national level.
