Referral to BFC
Referrals to the BFC are primarily written in Cosmic and sent digitally to the Carestream imaging system. If as a referrer you are not connected to Cosmic, or a backup flow in event of problems in Cosmic, you can make a paper referral.
The standard flow for writing referrals in Cosmic is available for download in Swedish:

Eligibility check
As the referrer, you are responsible for ensuring that the relevant medical information and indication for the examination are available and completed in the referral. Doctors at the BFC must, where appropriate, carry out an eligibility check in the context of prioritisation. For the BFC doctor, it is important that the necessary information is available when prioritising.
If you fail to provide the necessary information in elective (non-emergency) referrals, the recipient of the referral at the BFC (not the doctor) will return it. Before a referral goes forward for prioritisation, they check that information is filled in the boxes for the proposed examination, question, medical history and medical information (risk questions).
In connection with the eligibility assessment and the planning of the examination, there is often a need for dialogue with the referrer and therefore it is important that contact details are available so that we can easily get in touch (including direct telephone/ pager).
If there is no relevant content in the boxes filled in for the examination, the doctor at the BFC may, after a medical assessment, also return the referral. In this latter case, no or limited attempts to reach you as a referrer will be made.
Signposting referrals to the round
A signposting referral should be written by the person who wants to see the images on the round or it should state who should see the images. For signposting to be effective, it is important that the question states what the signposting is intended to answer.
For signposting referrals, it is important to specify which examinations are relevant, the date of the signposting and the round in question. Bear in mind that several rounds have similar names and formulate the text so that it is clear to the person receiving the referral. If the signposting referral is incomplete, we will reject it and a new referral will be required. Keep in mind that you, as the referrer, should order the images from your place of residence.
