Our services
The symptoms of neurological diseases are many and varied. Weakness, changed or lost sense of touch, coordination and balance difficulties, headaches, motor disorders and epileptic seizures are examples of symptoms that can occur.
As a regional clinic, we offer highly specialised care. Examples of highly specialised activities include epilepsy surgery investigations, inpatient investigations of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), treatment of motor disorders with brain electrode stimulation (DBS), and team-based services for patients with chronic neurological diseases.
The Neurology clinic is the base of our outpatient services. Our neurological ward treats acute cases and carries out advanced treatment and investigations.

Referral information
ALS and motor neurone diseases (MNS)
Referrals from, for example, primary care in Region Uppsala are made to the neurology clinic for an initial visit. If a diagnosis of ALS/MNS is suspected, an investigation is scheduled. These investigations are fast-tracked and take place on an in-patient basis in order to conduct the investigation and arrive at a diagnosis quickly and collectively. Once the diagnosis is finalised, the patient is connected to our team.
Referrals for out-of-country patients are sent to the neurological clinic. If a referral is made by a neurologist at another hospital, the patient is scheduled to come to ward 85D for a clinical assessment, review of the examinations performed and any additional examinations. For ALS/MNS diagnosis, the MNS team is involved depending on agreement with the referrer.
