About our services
We specialise in rehabilitation and we assess, evaluate and provide treatment in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Our work area covers almost the entire hospital, which gives us great breadth and variety. We have several different units with different specialisations such as occupational therapy, clinical nutrition, physiotherapy, speech therapy and psychosocial treatment. We also work in rehabilitation in medicine, oncology, geriatrics, neurology, cardiopulmonary medicine, orthopaedics and intensive care.
Our different health professions
Occupational therapy
There are occupational therapists and occupational instructors who see patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings across the hospital.
When you suffer from an illness or injury, your daily life can be greatly affected. The occupational therapist can then help you find new ways to perform important and meaningful activities. For example, you can learn how to maintain, improve or compensate for a reduced ability.
We start from what the person wants and needs to be able to do in terms of activities to make everyday life feel meaningful and functional. This can include trying to do ordinary things in a different way, learning to plan, adapt and organise your home and surroundings as well as trying out and using different assistive technology. It is important to learn to think in a new way to make everyday life work well.

Physiotherapy
There are physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants who see patients both in inpatient and outpatient care in different areas of the hospital.
All the physiotherapists at Uppsala University Hospital work conscientiously and systematically based on the best available scientific evidence and our clinical experience. To make this approach clear, we have developed treatment guidelines for how we treat different diagnostic groups.

Clinical nutrition
As registered dietitians, we see patients in the various wards and clinics of the hospital and we treat various conditions such as malnutrition, obesity, unhealthy eating habits and various medical conditions with diet and nutritional products.
Our work also involves promoting health and preventing ill health and disease. Dietitians are also responsible for various prescription nutrition pumps and nutrition products.
Our main task is dietary treatment for various medical conditions such as diabetes, bowel disease and cancer. The dietitian assesses and evaluates the intake of food and drink. The dietitian then ensures that the patient is getting the right nutrition in sufficient quantities, based on current nutritional recommendations.

At Uppsala University Hospital, speech and language therapists work in several different teams and provide consultancy services for hospitalised patients. Speech and language therapists are also available in paediatric health care, language preschools and hearing preschools.
