About Us
Uppsala University Hospital is Sweden's oldest university hospital. The first department was established as early as 1708. But Uppsala University Hospital does not rest on its laurels, quite the contrary. It is a characteristic of the activities here always to look for new, innovative solutions. We make the best use of new technology, new scientific findings and new ways of working in order to solve medical problems and to continuously improve the way we take care of our patients.
Today, the hospital is one of the country's most complete regional hospitals, with around 40 departments and over 8 200 employees. It's main fields of activity are medical care, teaching and research.
Some activities are broad, incorporating many different disciplines, others are narrow, specialist areas where Uppsala University Hospital has a unique and leading position. Some activities are all about technology and hard scientific facts, others concern soft human factors like nursing, personnel development and ethics. What unites them all is the aim to provide the best possible care for all our patients, regardless of disease, in a safe and secure environment, applying knowledge and skills that are constantly developing.
We accept patients from the county of Uppsala, from the Uppsala/Örebro health care region and, for certain specialisms, from Sweden as a whole.
Education and research are undertaken in close collaboration with the Medical Faculty of Uppsala University.
